How I Planned My Destination Beach Engagement: 3 Helpful Tips
Sunny skies, coconut trees, saltwater breeze and sand in our toes surrounded by our family and friends is how I pictured my engagement. The ocean gave us the most beautiful backdrop. The Warwick Fiji was our choice because it was one of the most romantic properties we had ever seen and we wanted to prioritise on our guest’s comfort levels.
1. Spend time researching on the weather
When is cyclone season? What months of the year are dry and wet? When is it too hot or too cold? These are some of the questions you may need to consider when planning your destination beach wedding. In Fiji, the cyclone season starts from November and ends in April. So, we opted to have our beach wedding in late June where temperatures were around 25 degrees. If you plan accordingly with a tent or a conference room for your reception then rain will not get in the way of such a special day!
2. Beach wedding set-up – Get heavy!
Beach weddings can get windy, and I mean really windy. In this case forget about glass bud vases, small centerpieces and anything that might get blown away or break. Choose pieces that are heavier and well weighted down. We opted for a floral canopy with white draping that was well jointed to the ground. This way it refused to topple over!
Also, it can get loud (with the ocean and the wind) and if you are having more than 50 guests at your destination beach wedding ensure you have sound amplification. Your voice will not project in an open space the way it would in a conference room or a ballroom.
3. Travel and Accommodation
The couple is not financially responsible for a guest’s airfare, bus, taxi, accommodation, or meals while they are travelling for the wedding, but you may want to give them helpful tips on how to plan. The easiest one is a hotel block. It is the most cost effective way to ensure your guests have accommodation which also has easy access to the wedding ceremony and reception site.
