Flower power: What can you expect to get for your wedding décor budget?

Wedding budget blog flower power

‘How much will the flowers cost me?’ is one of the first questions we always get asked. And it’s a great question.

Fresh flowers add an irreplaceable ambience to a wedding. When looking at your overall budget, the first thing to decide is how important they are to you. Are they a focal point of your décor? or will they just be there to add that decorative touch? Does your venue need flowers to distract the eye and enhance its appeal? or is the venue already so lovely that just a few flower arrangements are required to carry through your colour palette?

Before we talk pricing, here are a few of our top Bloom wedding décor budget tips:

  • Choose pieces that make the most impact and prioritise their placement. Think about what will be photographed the most (usually the bridal couple and the ceremony site), where your guests spend the most time (sitting at dining tables), and what photos you are likely to have framed after the wedding.
  • As a good rule of thumb, wedding flower décor budget should account for 10-15% of your overall wedding budget.
  • If aiming for Insta- or Pinterest-worthy design, allow 20-25% of your total wedding budget.
  • Prices will vary depending on the number of flowers used, and how many premium blooms are included. For example, peonies and hydrangeas are more expensive blooms.
  • It’s also important to be aware labour charges can vary dramatically as well. Each venue has its own rules on when we can set up, and when we need to pack down. All of this has an impact on costs for the day.

A guide to setting your wedding décor budget

First, this is just a guide to help you plan your budget; these prices don’t constitute a formal quote. It’s also not a complete list – think of it as a starting point!

Under $1,000

  • Our a la carte wedding option is perfect for couples who love Bloom’s signature style, but don’t require large arrangements or on-site setup.
  • This option is ideal for clients who only need personal flowers, centrepieces, and a few focal arrangements. Simply choose the size and quantity of your personal flowers and centrepieces and describe your colour palette. Leave the rest to us!

Please note: We don’t recommend our a la carte option couples who want particular flower types, require an in-person consultation, or have more complex event design needs.

From $1,000 – $3,500

  • This budget allows for a large feature at your ceremony, for example, a two-pillar arch with florals.
  • Depending on the size of the bridal party, this will include all personal flowers (bouquets, buttonholes, jaimala) as well as allow for some table centrepieces at the reception. We suggest smaller arrangements on each table or a collection of bud vases and feature blooms to fit within the budget.

From $3,500 - $5,500

  • This option normally includes the bridal party’s personal flowers, and a feature element at the ceremony such as an two-pillar arch. It can also cover off smaller table arrangements or bud vases for the table decoration, as well as candles.
  • Or if there is just one lavish feature element, and depending on the amount of flowers, this budget may only account for the ceremony feature.

From $5,500 – $7,500

  • This price range falls within our typical full-service wedding design, which usually includes personal flowers, a ceremony floral feature as well as flowers and candles for the tables. Having said that, if we are building a custom ceremony element (i.e., mandap/chuppah), this budget may only account for the ceremony feature and a few table arrangements.

From $7,500 – $10,000

  • With this budget, we are usually looking at a collection of personal flowers, large statement or impact pieces at the ceremony (for example, urn arrangements or an archway plus aisle flowers, or a feature mandap/chuppah installation with drapes and chandeliers).
  • For the reception, the budget could include a hanging feature, as well as flowers and candles for the tables.
